The Serenade Jacket is our most loved classic art clothing embroidered Jacket. It is the perfect jacket for a Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom as the colors complement a range of colors yet do not compete with the Bride on her special day.
It is also ideal for Bat Mitzvahs, Bar Mitzvahs, Anniversary dinners, and special events where heirloom photographs will be taken to record the occasion. We hope, 100 years from now, the photograph of you in this jacket will elicit compliments much as the clothing in the photographs of the 1920’s do today.
The embroidery is created using nine subtle colors of silken threads in warm cream, neutral taupe, soft sage and a range of rose madder (soft red brown). The stamens in the double layer flowers are dots of antique metallic bronze.
The Serenade Jacket is shown in the first photo over a Crushed Rayon Dress in Taupe. It also works well over the darker version of taupe rayon, called Fossil.
The second photo shows the Serenade Jacket over a Valentino Shell and a voluptuous Vampiress Skirt in 100% Dupioni Silk in the color Desert. Other silk colors to consider are: Taupe, Swamp (cool green) and Herb (warm green).
The cut-outs in the bottom edge of the asymmetric hem of the jacket allow the color of the dress, shell or skirt to appear ‘inside’ the embroidery on the jacket. The angled bottom of the jacket is especially flattering and allows the subtly different colors of both the Silk shell and the Silk skirt to add to the painterly picture created by the whole outfit.
The sides and the cuffs of the three quarter sleeve are taupe 100% Dupioni silk. The cuffs have different decorations made from the flowers in the jacket.
The closure is a soft cording with delicate chiffon flowers on the ends of the ties.
Care: Cover with a damp cloth to press. The silk sides can handle a range of temperatures but the embroidered panels cannot! Do not expose the translucent embroidered fabric to a hot dry iron. It will form a wrinkly hole and be unrepairable without replacing the whole panel. Oh No!
Minor Alterations: Put the jacket on ‘inside out’. Close the ties from the inside. Pin with small gold safety pins along the side seams starting at the high waist. Gently move your arms into a hugging position! Can you still hug? Hugging is going to happen!
It is better to have the jacket a little loose and comfortable to allow free movement. Your friends are going to compliment you on the color and beautiful embroidery and closures. They are not going to be looking at how tight the jacket fits. They will want a hug! A jacket that is too tight can result in creases and folds and ultimately tears (and tears).
