I am coming to the understanding that, for Lee, being called an artist is very complicated. Calling another human an artist appears to be a compliment in one tone of voice and a form of derision in another. When it is compliment it means the person has created something that is surprising and deemed beautiful to the senses of another human. When the word is used as a form of insult it means the ‘artist’ is an erratic and unreliable person. This appears to be the most painful insult one can throw at an artist. The very act of responding to the accusation with any form of passion immediately makes the accuser right. I will have to keep studying this. Your assistance with this would be welcome.
